SCREAMING TREES

Screaming Trees was an American rock band formed in Ellensburg,America in 1985 by vocalist Mark Lanegan, guitarist Gary Lee Conner, bass player Van Conner and drummer Mark Pickerel. Pickerel had been replaced by Barret Martin by the time the band reached its most successful period. Although widely associated with grunge, the band's sound incorporated hard rock and psycedelicelements. Since its formation, Screaming Trees released seven studio album, five Eps and three compilations.
The Conner brothers formed Screaming Trees with Mark Lanegan and Mark Pickerel in 1985 in, a small town a little over 100 miles from Seattle The band was drawn together by an interest in punk, garage, and classic rock in high school. The band rehearsed at the Conner family's video rental store and recorded their demo tape Other Worlds in the summer of 1985 with Steve Fisk at Creative Fire recording studio in Ellensburg. The band talked the owner of the studio into releasing it as a cassette on the local indie label, Velvetone Records (the recording was re-released as a CD and vinyl EP by SST Records in 1988). In 1986, they released their debut album, Clairvoyance, also on the Velvetone label. Musically, the album is a combination of pscycadelic rock and hard rock. With Fisk's help, the LP caught the attention of Gregg Ginn, and the band were signed to SST Records.

7 YEAR B*TCH

7 year Bitch was an American punk rock band from Seattle. that was active for 7 years, between 1990 and 1997. Their career yielded three albums, and was impacted by the deaths of their guitarist Stefanie Sargent and close-friend Mia Zapata of fellow Seattle punks The Gits.
7 Year Bitch was formed in 1990 by vocalist Selene Vigil, guitarist Stefanie Sargent, bassist Elizabeth Davis and drummer Valerie Agnew. Vigil, Sargent, and Agnew had been playing together in the Seattle band Barbie's Dream Car when their bassist left for Europe. They subsequently recruited Davis and renamed their band after the movie Seven Year Itch.

They're albums are :

  • Sick 'Em (1992)
  • Viva Zapata! (1994)
Gato Negro (1996)

In early 1997, the band began recording material for what was to be their fourth album. The band moved from Seattle to California, Elizabeth Davis and Valerie Agnew to San Francisco and Selene Vigil to Los Angeles. With the recent departure of their guitarist, Roisin Dunne and the geographical separation between bandmates, Seven Year Bitch's career came to a close after a final tour with San Francisco's Lost Goat.

THE MELVINS

The Melvins are an American band that formed in 1983. They usually perform as a trio, but in recent years have performed as a four piece with two drummers. Since 1984, singer and guitarist Buzz Osborne (also known as King Buzzo) and drummer Dale Crover have been the band's ongoing members. The band was named after a supervisor at a Thriftway in Montesano,Washington, where Osborne also worked as a clerk. "Melvin" was despised by other employees, and the band's members felt it to be an appropriately ridiculous name.
The Melvins' music is influenced by Black Flag's mix of punk and metal on their album My War, and other slow punk acts like Swans, Flipper and Wipers, but also by some hard rock and metal bands such as Kiss and Alice Cooper; however, their idiosyncratic approach, bizarre sense of humor, and experimentation make neat categorization difficult. Osborne has also stated that his guitar playing is more influenced by Black Flag than Black Sabbath, whom they are often compared with.

MOTHER LOVE BONE

Mother Love Bone was an American rock band that formed in SeattleWashington in 1988. The band was active from 1988 to 1990. Frontman Andrew Wood's personality and compositions helped to catapult the group to the top of the burgeoning late 1980s/early 1990s Seattle music scene. Wood died only days before the scheduled release of the band's debut album, Apple, thus ending the group's hopes of success. The album was finally released a few months later. Although Mother Love Bone is remembered by many as a very talented band in its own right, its legacy, for some, is overshadowed by Wood's death and the bands that its former members would later form, most notably Pearl Jam.

GREEN RIVER

Green River was an American rock band from Seattle,Washington that was active from 1984 to 1988. Although the band had little commercial impact outside of its native Seattle, Green River proved to have significant influence on the genre later known as grunge, both with its own music and with the music its members would create in future bands including Pearl Jam and Mudhoney. In 2008, Green River reunited and has since played several live shows.

In mid-1985, the band embarked on its first nationwide tour to promote the now completed Come on Down EP. Release of the record was delayed however, thus negating the purpose of the tour. From all accounts the experience was less than positive, though it did help cement alliances with other emerging American indie rock bands. Among them was Sonic Youth, who later quoted the song "Come on Down" on its own composition "Nevermind (What was That it anyway)". After the tour, Come on Down was finally released by the New York-based Homestead Records. The record was released to little fanfare, and did not sell well. However it is often considered the first album to be released by a "grunge" band, as it predated both the Deep Six compilation album and the Melvins' debut album.

Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots is an American rock band from San Diego,California that consists of Scott Weiland (lead vocal), brothers RoberDeLeo (bass guitar, vocals) and Dean DeLeo (guitar), and Eric Kretz (drums, percussion).
After forming in 1986 under the name "Mighty Joe Young," the band found immediate success in 1993 after signing with Atlantic Records and releasing their debut album 'Core' (1992) under the STP moniker.
The band went on to become one of the most commercially successful bands of the 1990s,releasing four more studio albums: Purple (1994), Tiny Music From Vatikan (1996), 'No.4'(1999) and Shangrila De Da(2001) before separating in 2003, after which the band members partook in various projects, most notably Revolver and Velvet Army Of Everyone. STP eventually reconvened in 2008 for a reunion tour, released a new self titled album in 2010, and are currently planning an extensive reissue campaign for the 20th anniversary of Core in 2012.

Stone Temple Pilots

While initially displaying a sound typically identified as "grunge" early on in its career, further releases from the band have shown a variety of influences, including 'psychedelic rock', bossa nova and classic rock. The band's evolution throughout the 1990s and early 2000s involved several tumultuous periods of commercial highs and lows, brought about in part by Weiland's well-publicized struggles with drug addiction.
